Chego sempre atrasada aos funerais importantes

I have always been fascinated with this idea of living an adventure in an unknown territory. I think I saw too many road movies where the road is the passage to a new beginning, free from the bonds of the past. But I heard so many times in those films ‘You have to get lost. You can’t look back. You have to break boundaries. You have to leave your comfort zone. You have to risk more.’, that I started feeling that they were supporting visually the neoliberal mantra of the subject as a project of himself, in the transcendent journey of self-optimization.
How has this narrative been affecting the way I – and maybe we – have been living love? Are there territories where the the notion of heroicity is absurd and problematic? How do we improve in love?
I travelled to Chile and I filmed my own interpretation of a road movie: the story of the lonely hero(ine) when she ventures in the journey of love.
This film is dedicated to all the moments when I wanted to hit the road of love, but I was stuck inside the whale of solitude. Like Jonah: “in the lonely darkness of death, the tongue finally starts moving. And, in the moment he starts speaking, an answer arrives.”

The project Chego sempre atrasada aos funerais importantes is an investigation around the narrative of the lonely hero in the journey of love that originated three different works: the performance Chego sempre atrasada aos funerais importantes (Teatro Maria Matos, Lisbon, 2018); the film with the same title (Festival Temps d’Images, Lisbon, 2017) and the walk As if my love was blind (Nave, Chile, 2017).
